Why You Need A Domain Name - How To Choose, Use, Buy, And Manage Them
Categories: Other News.
Making sure you have an excellent domain name is very important for all entrepreneurs. It affects many parts of your business and should be considered with care as to what name you choose. Consider carefully what domain name you will use. It should be one that anyone can completely identify with the business you are carrying on. It isn’t easy to change once you purchase one, so think carefully. It has two main purposes.
- It brands your business
- Help you with search engine positioning
Brand your business: To choose your domain name, you must recognize that this will be how customers see your business and thus the name must be a good one and very professional. Keep the following in mind when picking your domain name:
- Make it memorable: People should be able to easily remember the name of your website so they will be more inclined to tell others about it.
- Make it short and easy to spell: Make your domain name simple enough that others can spell it easily and remember it without difficulty.
- It should describe your business and what you do. Your domain name should describe what you are offering your prospects and customers, so when they see it, they know what they are getting.
- Your domain name is your business name: Due to the fact it is not easy to change your domain name, you should get it right the first time.
Optimizing your website: Try to include your keyword or key phrase within your domain name. This helps position you better in the search engines and make your website easy to find.
Registering your domain name:
- Make a list of domain names: Get a list of five or even ten different names to use for your domain name. You’ll find that some of your ideas are already taken, so you should have a number of choices with your keywords in use.
- Go to a domain register and get your domain name registered. You can use .com or .net or .org as the suffix. And here are some terms you need to know: o Nameserver: this is referring to the host’s server. If you insert the host’s DNS or server code when you register, you will ensure your website and domain name will be found for registration, and thus your website will be published effectively for the world to see on the World Wide Web. o Whois is contact info on your website. You can make it private or you can have it for everyone to see. Anyone at all can see it if you make it public, so if you do, make sure you don’t put too much personal info in it.
Some important things to remember:
o The longer term you register for, the more credible Google will see your site to be, so you will move up in the ranks. Try to register for two or even five years.
o So no one can tamper with the domain name or transfer to another service
