In old days, the companies used to conduct their business in physical buildings, whereby the employees had to travel physically to work for the company. However, with the globalization and the availability of advanced communication technologies such as teleconferencing, video conferencing and internet, the meaning of jobs associated with a physical location has changed. Online jobs have become the vogue, where employees need not travel to a specific location to work for their company.

The Internet has brought about a plethora of business opportunities with the advent of faster and barrier free electronic communication around the world and the abundance of e-commerce technologies. Secure online business in every shape and form exist today and is available at very nominal costs. The internet has pervaded every aspect of the business right from marketing, selling, buying and payments of day to day commodities without leaving the comforts of our own homes.

Transacting business on the internet has become common place. As such, the door is wide open for online jobs. This has made it possible for employees to conduct their business from home or the office without having to travel to far away locations. These new virtual offices can further be expanded outside the home and office with the use of handheld devices like blackberries and the use of laptop computers. These technological advances have led to great quality of life improvements for employees.

The advantages of online jobs extend both to employees and employers. It is clearly a win-win situation for all parties involved. The employer reaps the benefit of lower capital expenditure costs and overall labor costs through better utilization of personnel. Employees have the flexibility to decide when and where they work. This flexibility expands the available labor pool to people who normally would not be given the opportunity. Examples include house wives, pregnant women and the disabled. The end result is increased productively of employees with a resulting increase in profit margin.

There are also some human resource challenges that come with online jobs. For example, employee accountability and performance management are critical as traditional methods are not successful in this new environment. The risk is a less controlled environment may not be suitable for every type of employee and is not conducive to group efforts which may be required. As such, human resources will have to develop and implement strategies to mitigate this risk and ensure accountability with employees and suitable productivity.

In conclusion, it is appropriate to say that online jobs is the way to go forward. One cannot ignore the new business opportunities provided by Internet business and the advantages this kind of job offers. If an organization or business comes up with innovative ways of handling the challenges, I am sure such business organizations will thrive to beat the competition and become successful.

Globalization has allowed companies that traditionally worked with in physical buildings to work through online platforms which provide physical location flexibility to their employees. The increased presence of the internet has created numerous options for an internet business and online jobs are now in vogue. Online job opportunities are advantageous for both the employer and employee resulting in a win-win situation for both parties. However, these jobs provide human resource challenges related to the less controlled work environment. These challenges are outweighed by the new business opportunities and cost advantages that come with online business technologies and the future potential is unlimited.
