I have been in the computer field for a LONG, LONG time.

In the old days we didn’t have the Internet. In the old days we only had the zeroes and ones. And sometimes we didn’t even have the ones.

Whenever some new technology gets introduced, there is a learning curve.

Here is an example of the tech support how it was done in the OLD days:

I’ve been looking for years for great Graphics software, but most of the software is very complicated to use so this will turn you off from doing any graphics work. Some other software is complicated AND expensive, such as Adobe Photoshop.

Xara Extreme is the software I just absolutely LOVE. It works well, is easy to use and in my mind more powerful and faster than Adobe Photoshop. Check it out for yourself on XARA’s web site

Apple, Ipods, Iphones, And Mobile Technology

Apple, the company that began the computer revolution, has remained a key player in the technology race. After all, we are talking about the company that introduced the iPod into the world. However, despite their leading role in the technology world, Apple has failed to establish their territory in the mobile phone industrythat is, until now. Now, Apple’s cell phone is quickly becoming one of the hippest and most desired new devices available.

At the January 2007 MacWorld conference, Steve Jobs electrified the audience and the world with the announcement that the long-rumored Apple cell phone, dubbed the iPhone, was indeed in development. The iPod had already garnered widespread praise, and a large following. Folks were excited by the idea that Apple might do for the functional, but uninspiring cell phone design, what Apple did for portable music players with the iPod. The hype continued, and the rumors mounted, until the iPhone was finally released to the public on June 29, 2007. Consumers lined up for blocks outside Apple Stores in anticipation. By most accounts, the hype was in large measure justified as the iPhone has since garnered rave reviews from independent users and technology reviewers, while inspiring copycat designs from competitors. The iPhone, small enough to fit in a purse or large pocket, comes in three colors so far: white, black, and platinum. More colors and more features are no doubt in the iPhone’s future.

You can do a lot more than just listen to music and phone with the Apple iPhone. Text messaging, Internet browsing, email, and watching videos and movies are also available on this device, along with listening to music. You may appreciate all the functionality squeezed into the machine, or you may just be in awe of its small size.

AT&T and Apple stores have had a monopoly on iPhone sales since they were introduced on June 29th. Only in late 2007 will the cell phone be available worldwide. Known for its ability to meet customer needs, it was not a surprise when Apple introduced its phone. Apple successfully leveraged its loyal fan base and innovative product development in introducing the iPhone to great success.

Binary bad behavior.

Malware is a generic term for bad software. Malware is malicious code planted on your computer, and it can give the operator a truly alarming degree of control over your computer, network, and files - all without your knowledge. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner’s informed consent. Malware is a combination of the words ‘malicious’ and ’software’ and is a program written by someone with mischievous or, more usually, malicious intent.

The Internet

Trojan horses also known as droppers are used to start off a worm outbreak, by dropping a worm into users’ local networks. A worm, on the other hand, is a program which actively transmits itself over a network to infect other computers. One of the most common ways that spyware is distributed is as a Trojan horse, bundled with a piece of desirable software that the user downloads off the internet or a peer-to-peer file-trading network.

Most early infectious programs, including the first worm and a number of MS-DOS viruses, was written as experiments or pranks generally intended to be fun or merely annoying rather than to cause havoc. However, since the rise of broadband internet , more malicious software has been designed for profit motive. Software that offers to speed up the internet will probably contain malware. Some malware is known to interrupt your internet connection or even make your computer to crash. Internet trojan horse programs, spyware, keyloggers, rootkits, pseudorootkits, hijackers, adware, annoyware, email relays, spam proxies, spam relays, scam downloads and email/spam robots are perhaps the greatest security threat to individuals and institutional networks in existence.

Email

Email will continue to be an important vector for malware authors, though the increasing adoption of email gateway security is making malware authors turn to other routes for infection. Emailed malware is also looking more professional and people who assume they can identify any infected emails through bad spelling, bad grammar or suspicious subjects will be caught out. Be careful about any attachments, particularly those that you receive from unknown people. You should also be careful with attachments from those you know. Never open any attachment you are not expecting , even if it appears to come from a co-worker ( you cannot acquire malware by reading the main text of a mail message, unless your patching is out of date). By the end of the decade, the use of email gave malware an effective infection route into new machines.

Malware is a catch-all term for various malicious software, including browser hijacking software, adware and spyware. Malware is usually included with ’spam’ and avoiding this will reduce your exposure to malware. Malware is now being written for every possible platform, communications channel and businesses that do not update their systems religiously or fail to use security software and internet protection will find themselves at risk of getting infected.

Any one not investing in security software, will eventually get infected. That’s the hard truth! Maybe your PC is already infected… You may scan your PC for FREE here: SpywareRemover or AntiSpyware 2007.

Have a safe day :-)

Camtasia Training: It’s easier than you think!

Posted on
Categories: Computer, Internet.

With the advent of broadband and new age internet technologies, it is possible to impart instructions online. There are several tools to help you develop instructional materials. Each of these has been developed for a particular type of learning need. One such learning tool is called Camtasia

When you want to walk someone though a process to be completed on a computer or inside database software, or for that manner anything that can be illustrated on a computer screen, you will wish to walk the learner through the entire process. For that to happen, you need to record the sequence of activities performed yourself and record the events on the screen simultaneously using screen capture software.

Building such walk through training is achieved by means of screen recording software or simulation software. One of the market leaders in this arena is camtasia. It has proved its immense capabilities over time and is therefore regarded by everyone in the E-learning industry as one of the most user friendly tools.

You have a lot of options available in camtasia you can convert serious stuff into funny videos. You can record only parts of the screen or everything you see. You can add your own voice or voice over audio later The output is of course, a screen capture .

This software allows you to add captions, callouts, highlights text fields for the user to type in, mouse rollovers etc. You have the ability to produce only portions of the video and you can even provide navigation buttons beyond what is actually shown on the screen and edit the bitmap images for all presentation controls .This software is really a complete learning tool

Last but not the least, this software supports diversity by providing multilingual support . English, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, French and many more languages are supported. So, language is not a hurdle for delivering excellent simulations, if you happen to choose camtasia. The customer service is good and there are many learning tools available with which you can learn how to use camtasia in a matter of minutes.

Terri Roberts is the author of Camtasia Course and has been developing comprehensive Camtasia training for the her course.

Tech Blog: Making A Major Impact On Business

Posted on December 29, 2007
Categories: Computer.

In about the year 2000, the idea came to thousands of people at once: why not place your personal journal on the internet? Now blogs about every conceivable subject draw millions of visitors every single day. Many of these bloggers decided to start writing about tech news. There are many people who keep a technology blog about the latest new products and ideas; a tech blog can help you separate the valuable new gadgets from the useless junk.

You may have visited a tech blog before buying your digital camera, to see what reviews it had received. Tech blogs give tech geeks a place to enthuse about the latest in modern technology, and their expertise has given them renown. No one would spend $400 on a camcorder or any other piece of technology without making some effort to find out what reviews it had received, and these folks are as well qualified as anyone to give their opinions.

The portrayal of nerds has advanced quite a lot since the days they were only fodder for the bigger and stronger kids. Today, it is just as likely a geek would be consulting with the jocks on the technology they should use to secure their memories, or detailing the best mobile fashion to reach the internet, or even fielding questions on wifi.

Many of the gaming blogs tend to be geared toward the high-end gamer and not your average computer user, who would likely recoil at the cost of a true gaming computer. Many of these bloggers have, by virtue of their experience, an almost encyclopedic knowledge of computer hardware, in addition to helpful advice on virus, spyware, and malware removal.

The question now is not why someone would become a tech geek- it’s why isn’t everyone a tech geek? We are now surrounded by high technology products everywhere we go, from the garage door opener that lets us drive away from home to the laptops that we carry with us everywhere. You can call your home to make the lights turn on, and get coffee surrounded by your fellow computer users.

The amazing increase in the popularity of tech blogs have opened the doors to the voices of those who didn’t have the exposure before. Shyness can quickly be replaced by erudition and charm when someone has the relative anonymity of the internet tech blog. These blogs are also highly important in influencing the products we ultimately buy and the companies we ultimately patronize.

A technology blog is a useful tool when looking to buy an expensive piece of equipment. No one wants to spend $400 or more on a piece of technology without checking some tech news sites for reviews on the product. Many of geeks have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of computers including their hardware, software and virus or spyware removal. It is the tech blog where these introverts can come out and share their wealth of knowledge without having to worry about their social status. This is also where those who are clueless about technology can come for advice and guidance.

How to protect your computer from spam and viruses

Posted on
Categories: Computer, Internet.

Many people ask us to comment on if it is a good idea to out-source your email filtering services to a managed service provider or host the sytem in-house.

Many businesses and individuals use internet messages and email to manage their day-to-day activities. However the proliferation of spam is making this communication tool less effective as legitimate emails are being lost in all the inbox clutter.

In addition to spam there are other distractions such as malicious programs, “phishing”, and virused to deal with. Many corporations try to protect themselves by installing a spam filter inhouse to filter unwanted email. This is often a fruitless exercise.

Market Research reveals that managed & hosted spam protection services can have advantages over inhouse systems. Managed and hosted service providers are useful because they have teams of developers who can react to spam threats in a faster time frame than inhouse teams. Furthermore, hosted spam protection providers allow you to send your message traffic to a third-party hosting location thereby totally insulating your own servers from email that is unfiltered.
